HAPPY ADOPTIONS

2 years ago, I saw some dresses for sale at High Desert Humane Society’s thrift store. Daniel and I walked in and immediately saw this beautiful dog. She was patiently laying in the dog playpen, accepting a pat from anyone walking by. 

Daniel sat and pet her for about 10 minutes. The dresses were already sold so we went home. About 10 minutes later, he said if you want that dog, we can go get her. So we did! She’s been an absolute dream and fits in perfectly with our other dogs and our whole family.

We changed her name from Royalty to Sienna. She was quick to learn her name. We had no intention whatsoever of getting another dog. Now, we can’t imagine our family without her.

I adopted these two brother BANDIT and sister HONEY from the Humane Society in 2014. They have been such a blessing for me. I also like to shop at Humane Society because I know that the money I spend there goes to a very good cause.

I was shopping in there and these two were there begging for attention. I made a video begging people to come and adopt them and posted on FB.

I knew I didn’t need them, I already had a big older dog that I was pretty sure he wouldn’t be thrilled with them it turned out he was OK with them.. No one came to get them so I did. Best decision I ever made or one of the best anyway.

We adopted Wolf (black) and Mia (brown) in April 2022. I had been taking bags of food to the shelter in memory of Shadow who passed in 2020. Wolf had been at HDHS several times when I’d drop off food but I wasn’t ready for another dog. When the day came, he was there again.

I heard how he was an escape artist and our 5 ft fence would not be enough to keep him in. He was playing with Mia, who was only 4 months old. We decided to adopt both, hoping he would stay home with his little friend who was too small to escape. It worked.

They have both traveled with us to do disaster relief around the country. The picture is from our trip to Asheville, NC in 9-24. They have been perfect companions for a retired couple that don’t like to be idle.

My family adopted our sweet puppy Cleopatra and the indomitable feline Samara from HDHS while living in Globe. She’s such a perfect addition to our family. She is my three year old's best friend, my daughter's cuddle buddy, my son's reason for taking a walk around the neighborhood, and my shadow.

She loves everyone and helps after dinner cleanup like a champ. Our biggest priority was a dog that our toddler was safe with, and we definitely know after a year she is the gentlest dog I’ve ever met. Samara is the sweetest cat, good with my kids and loves to tell us about her wandering around the neighborhood with long meow stories, and we couldn’t be happier to have them both in our family.

This is Cora, a heeler mix we adopted a little over two years ago. One day, my partner and I wandered into the humane society thrift store and left with something we didn’t expect— not second hand clothes, or a used chair— just an extremely adorable 14-week-old Cora! 

Even though she’s sometimes an absolute terror, she’s brought so much joy and love to our lives. And while the puppy phase was challenging, we were ecstatic to learn that she came to us very comfortable with people, with being in a crate, and being on a leash— it was clear that folks at the HS did a lot of work with her to get her ready for adoption!

Dan and I adopted “ROSCO” at the Gila County Fair in 2012, from GCHS. He was with Dan everywhere he went!!! Best partner we could have wished for!!

Really, I filled out the paperwork and Cheryl and Richard kept him because we had a Family Reunion to go to!! Couldn’t wait to get him!!! We never left him again he went with us everywhere we went!!! 

Rosco was Dan’s partner, and he is still missed, and we have 2 more Fur babies who we have now, 2 girls we adopted 1 from Payson Animal Shelter and the other from Pima County Animal Shelter on FREE DAY!!! We love both of them! And they are spoiled!! They have kept us active and entertained!!

My name is Marie and I adopted Holly back in November. Holly and my dog ended up not being a good match, but my sister and brother in law fell in love with her. She now lives with them in Coolidge. She has a puppy brother a shizu named Chewy.

Holly absolutely adores my brother in law Keith. We also learned quickly that she will steal the bed and loves being held. She also can jump several feet off the floor. Quite a comedian too.

I have adopted quite a few dogs from the humane society. My oldest one being around 15 to 16 years old now and my youngest one is not even 1 years old. Now let me tell you about ivory he has the newest one he was frightened of uniforms they took a while for him to get used to my husband.

He is the sweetest little dog, when I seen him on Facebook we went over to look at him he picked us what a fantastic way to make our day that day. Yes he fits in with my other ones very well and including the cats. He is the sweetest little boy ever I read things for choosing as if your mommy and Dad.

When we got our little tiny Sparky he was about 5 months old. And he had lived with you most all his life. He's now a little over a year and a half and is happy and healthy and we love him dearly!

He has chewed up everything in the house and has an appetite of a voracious Pig, but is the sweetest most loving thing ever! We have a total of four dogs, all rescues, and they're all marvelous! Thank you for sharing Sparky with us!
